E-mail delivery delay update
Published: 02 August 2006 08:53 PM

Over the summer there was a delay in e-mail delivery due to an increase in the amount of spam, which overwhelmed the servers. ITS has since replaced the incoming mail servers, and delivery time has returned to normal.

Near the beginning of June, a change in the regular influx of spam began to overwhelm the servers that process incoming mail. In some cases, delivery delays grew to as long as several days, especially for messages with multiple recipients.

Since this time, ITS has replaced the servers used to process incoming mail and made changes to their configuration to improve their ability to handle the load. It is believed that everything has returned to normal. A typical mail message with an on-campus sender and an on-campus recipient should be delivered in around 20 seconds. If you are noticing mail delays longer than this, please contact the NDSU Help Desk at 231-8685, Option 1.
