Census Scam? Count Me Out!
Published: 03 March 2010 02:25 PM

A number of "phishing" scams that supposedly come from the U.S. Census Bureau are currently making the rounds. These include both e-mail scams and fake Web sites.

Census data are NEVER collected electronically. According to the U.S. Census Bureau:

The only way to complete the census is by filling in the form using pen and ink; in some instances, census takers will be visiting households to complete the form face-to-face. It is important to understand that the U.S. Census Bureau will not, under any circumstances, be providing an online option to complete the 2010 census form.

If you receive an e-mail asking you to submit Census data online, do not reply - simply delete the e-mail.

Please e-mail NDSU.HelpDesk@ndsu.edu or call 231-8685 if you have questions or problems. You may also contact NDSU Chief IT Security Officer Theresa Semmens at 231-5870.
