Security update regarding Heartbleed vulnerability

Published: 17 April 2014

By now, you might have heard about the Heartbleed vulnerability that exists in recent versions of OpenSSL, which is the technology used to protect online data and network connections. More information about this vulnerability is available on the NDSU IT Security website.

The NDSU Information Technology Division took immediate steps to secure systems exposed to this vulnerability and to protect your data.

You might have received notification from your bank or other online service provider regarding changing your account passwords because of the Heartbleed vulnerability. If you might have used the same password for any NDSU IT services, we recommend you change your password for those accounts, as well.

To protect your sensitive data and NDSU resources, we recommend never using the same password for NDSU IT services as you do for services provided by external organizations.

Contact the IT Help Desk at 231-8685 (option 1) or ndsu.helpdesk@ndsu.edu if you have questions or need assistance.
