Communication and Web Specialist
Hours/Week: 15-20
Starting Wage: $9/hour
Reports to: IT Communications Coordinator and Instructional Services Manager
The communications and Web specialist will provide ongoing support for communications, Web, and marketing activities of the IT Division and its customers. These include, but are not limited to writing and editing announcements and messages that will be distributed to specific operational units, the university, the university system and the larger community. The role will also involve designing, developing, and maintaining Web sites and assisting with planning and implementing marketing/communication plans, events and activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate regularly with IT Communications Coordinator and Instructional Services Manager to coordinate efforts, activities, and schedules
- Assist with writing and editing various internal and external messages and documents
- Assist in planning and implementation of marketing and educational efforts and events
- Assist with design, development, and maintenance of Web sites, including IT Division sites
- Assist with preparation of the IT Division annual report
- Participate in the creation and execution of public relations events, faculty workshops, student orientation, and resource fairs
- Participate in meetings and/or committees where appropriate
- Maintain a high level of professional competency
- Participate in the STS professional development program
- Adhere to STS work practices
- Deal with sensitive situations and information in a confidential manner
- Work safely
Minimum Qualifications for Employment:
- Sophomore standing or higher
- Minimum GPA of 2.
- Background in visual design and graphic art programs, including:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe InDesign
- Adobe ImageReady
- Background in Web authoring and Web development languages and software packages, including:
- HTML
- CSS
- Dreamweaver
- Excellent written communication skills
- Good oral communication skills
- Strong customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications for Employment:
- Experience with TYPO3 content management system
- Experience with Contribute
- Competence in writing, particularly Associated Press Style
