On behalf of the ASME student section at NDSU, I would like to welcome you into and back into the College of Engineering and Architecture. I am sure that you are both eager and anxious about the coming year in the program. For this reason, I would like to tell you about the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). ASME is an organization that comprises over 125,000 students and professional engineers. The broad program provides its members with endless benefits, such as scholarships and loans, networking, leadership skills, mentoring on the Internet, professional development, and opportunities to attend ASME conferences. ASME is a great opportunity to learn about all the exciting fields of Mechanical Engineering. It also enables you to meet the professors and students involved in ASME at NDSU. This will prove to be extremely valuable, particularly for incoming first year students. Many times the biggest concern you have about entering college is not knowing who will be able to help them. This organization will help you meet many people who will be able to help start your career in engineering. Our first meeting will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 6:30 pm in CME Auditorium. Some of ASME’s events include design competitions (Rat Trap, Trebuchet Competition), trips to various ASME conferences, and service opportunities. We are looking forward to your involvement in the upcoming year. I would like to invite you into our chapter of ASME. Applications can be found online at https://www.asmeny.org/MEMBERAPPL/SECURED/HTML/stuindex.htm or you can stop in Dolve 12A, basement of Dolve Hall, for additional information. Membership is completely free for freshman to join for the first year. If however, you would like to receive the ASME magazine Mechanical Engineering, the cost is only $25 for a full year. ASME student section is here to welcome all the new students. If you have any questions about ASME or entering college please do not hesitate to reach me by e-mail Ramen.Julin@ndsu.edu. In addition, I encourage you to look at ASME’s home page at http://www.asme.org and the student ASME page http://www.asme.org/students/index.html. We look forward to meeting you and would encourage you to take advantage of all that ASME has to offer.
Sincerely, Ray Julin NDSU ASME President |
