Students majoring in the department of Modern Languages are encouraged to apply for the following annual scholarships. There is a common application for all three: Modern Languages Scholarship Application Form
The Laurel Sparks Study Abroad Scholarship-- a $1000 scholarship given to an NDSU student majoring in Modern Languages who will study abroad for a minimum of fourteen consecutive weeks during the upcoming year.
Eligibility criteria: 1. Be properly enrolled at NDSU during the semester of actual disbursement of the scholarship, with a first or second major in Spanish or French; 2. Have a plan for academic study abroad approved by the department of Modern Languages; 3. Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0; 4. Will have completed SPAN/FREN 312 before going abroad; 5. Preference given to those with junior standing studying abroad for the first time.
The Kathleen Aanerud Swanson Scholarship-- awarded to a female student of junior standing to study abroad for a minimum of 14 consecutive weeks.
Eligibility criteria: 1. Be properly enrolled at North Dakota State University at the time of application and disbursement; 2. Be a female student majoring within the Department of Modern Languages at the time of application and disbursement; 3. Have achieved junior standing or higher at the time of disbursement; 4. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher; 5. Have an academic study abroad program approved by the Department of Modern Languages.
The Madeline S. Gittings Scholarships-- These consist of two separate annual awards for students with a first or second major in Modern Languages who will be studying abroad for a minimum of fourteen consecutive weeks during the upcoming year.
Eligibility criteria:1. Be properly enrolled at NDSU at the time of application and disbursement; 2. Be a full-time student in good standing who is majoring in Modern Languages; 3. Financial aid shall be the primary criterion; 4. Secondary consideration given to academic performance; 5. Have an academic study abroad program approved by the Department of Modern Languages.
