Graduate Assistant for Visual Arts and Gallery (Potential Opening)
- Gallery Store management: (30%)
o Assist with developing a comprehensive business plan for the gallery store
o Create, update, and manage consignment contracts with vendors
o Remerchandise store on a seasonal basis
o Collaborate with various departments and student groups to create patrons and find vendors
o Train Student Assistants on customer service and retail best practices
· Assist in administration of the gallery program: (25%)
o Assist in recruitment, orientation and supervision of 6 – 10 student employees
o Assist in facilitating bi-weekly meetings with gallery staff
o Assist in handling art, hanging, striking and installation of exhibits
· Audience development: (25%)
o Work with faculty (Visual Arts and other departments) to encourage student participation in the gallery
o Work with student organizations, Residence Life, Greek Life to encourage student participation in the gallery
o Promote gallery at various campus and community events
o Assist in identifying partnerships locally, state-wide, and regionally for programming
o Assist with developing and implementing a new marketing plan for all gallery related events
o Work with designers, Student Coordinator, and Visual Arts and Gallery Coordinator in developing flyers and promotional materials for events
· Web Development: (10%)
o Become familiar with website to assist in development of online presence
o Work with Student Assistants and Union staff to revise and maintain gallery’s online presence
· Personal and professional development, including: (10%)
o Assist in budget development and presentation process for related programs
o Develop and present workshops on related topics
o Participate in professional development opportunities
o Co-chair the Visual Arts and Gallery Program Advisory Committee (MUGAB)
o Participate as active member of Student Activities and Memorial Union teams
o Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: Graduate Assistant must be admitted to a graduate program at NDSU and maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours and a 3.0 grade point average for duration of appointment. Other qualifications: 1) bachelor’s degree; 2) strong oral, written, and communication skills; 3) a high degree of initiative and the ability to carry out tasks to completion in a multi-tasking environment; and 4) the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in customer service, program promotion and marketing, and in interest in promoting the arts is desired.
Terms of Employment: Employment requires an average of twenty hours per week with appointment for early January 2014 through May 2014.
Compensation: $933.33 per month and an NDSU tuition waiver
