Fraternity and Sorority Advisory Board

Purpose and Responsibility

The purpose of the Fraternity and Sorority Life Advisory Board is to complement the educational mission of the institution through Fraternity and Sorority Life services and programs that promote and foster opportunities for individual growth and social competency. The programs and services offered through Fraternity and Sorority Life seek to meet the needs of students within the campus community. The Advisory Board shall seek to represent the interests of University faculty, staff, alumni, and both Fraternity and Sorority and Non-Fraternity and Sorority students in advising the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Associate Director of the Memorial Union, Memorial Union Director, Dean of Student Life, and Vice President for Student Affairs on policy and procedural matters relating to the function, expansion, improvement, and success of the Fraternity and Sorority Life System at North Dakota State University.

Institutional Recognition

The University President has delegated the primary responsibility of Fraternity and Sorority Life to the Vice President for Student Affairs, with the Fraternity and Sorority Advisory Board serving in an advisory capacity as outlined in the Fraternity and Sorority Life Initiatives and Action Plan.

Members and Terms of Office

Alumni and faculty and staff board members will be appointed for staggered two-year terms to begin in the Fall Semester. Students serve until they graduate or resign from their position on the board.

Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Associate Director of the Memorial Union, Memorial Union Director, Dean of Student Life, and Vice President for Student Affairs serve as ex-officio members of the Advisory Board and have permanent representation on the board. If a vote on a matter is necessary, the ex-officio members do not have a vote.

The Student Activities secretary serves as the recorder of minutes at each of the monthly meetings.

One of the student representatives will be selected by the Advisory Board membership to chair the Advisory Board meetings. The student chair will be selected at the last meeting of the year, usually held in April or May depending on the year.
