Civic Engagement

Civic engagement is a form of community engagement that emphasizes active participation in efforts, by members of a community, to work together to make informed public decisions and take action towards addressing social injustices. At North Dakota State University, civic engagement means carrying out one’s role—as a scholar, teacher, administrator, or student—without losing sight of the fact that each of us has a responsibility to be informed and active citizens in our community, capable of creating change for the betterment of society as a whole. Civic engagement involves collaboration, thoughtful discussion, respect for the opinions of others, and problem-solving.

At NDSU, there are a variety of civic engagement initiatives helping to further the land-grant mission of the institution and provide outreach and support to the larger community. These initiatives include Community Engagement Forums, Tapestry of Diverse Talents, and sustainability programming
