Severe air turbulence is evident on the underside of this shelf cloud, as it passed over Fargo, North Dakota, on June 6, 1988. In the immediate distance (lighter color) is a rain and hail front. In the foreground are the upper branches of trees. A funnel cloud and tornado were later associated with this storm system.
