Little International

The Little International is primarily a livestock show. However, it is more than just a lively and entertaining educational feature. The University has as one of its aims the development of students in the arts, abilities and attitudes that will be useful throughout their lives—qualities that will endure long after students have graduated from the institution. These are the attitudes the Little International fosters.”

Dockter selected for 82nd Little International

Dockter selected as Agriculturist of the Year

David Dockter, Mandan, N.D., has been selected by the North Dakota State University Saddle and Sirloin Club as the 82nd Little International Agriculturist of the Year.  Since 1924, the Saddle and Sirloin Club has honored distinguished leaders in North Dakota agriculture with each honoree possessing personal and professional attributes that members strive to exemplify.
Dockter was born and raised on a farm near McClusky, N.D.  He was involved in several activities throughout high school including athletics, Boys State, church youth group, and FFA.  He received his State FFA degree and was a member of the livestock judging team.
He was to married Louise Hanson.  Sadly, Louise passed away in January of 2007.   Dave and Louise had three children: Cheri, Larry and Terry, which have provided them four grandchildren.
Dockter is currently a member of First Lutheran Church in Mandan.  He has received many awards and honors: Appreciation for Service from the ND State Board for Vocational Education (August 1988), certified reproductive consultant from Select Sires in Plain City, Ohio (September 1999), and ND Winter Show Livestock Honoree (March 2000).  He also participated in the ND Stockmen’s Association’s mentoring program in 2003 and 2004.
In 1963, Dockter became a sales and service representative for ABS until 1980.  He has received over 30 awards for sales and SMS work.  He was a supervisor for Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) from 1970 to 2006.  In 1993, he received the Award of Merit from the ND Milk Producers Association.  In the early 1970’s, Dockter brought the first full blood Tarentaise female on U.S. soil.  He was a member of the first Board of Directors for the ND Tarentaise Association.  Dockter showed Tarentaise cattle at various shows around the country including the ND Winter Show and the Denver Stock Show.
Dockter began working for Select Sires as a sales representative on November 1, 1980.  He is currently serving as the beef coordinator and Artificial Insemination Trainer for Minnesota Select Sires in St. Cloud.  He has received numerous awards for salesmanship and been a member of the Select Sires President’s Club for many years.  Dockter has taught the proper A.I. technique to over 3,000 farmers and ranchers which improves their dairy and beef operations.  Under his guidance, Select Sires has had a commercial display at the ND Winter Show since 1981.

“A trailblazer in bringing the technologies developed at land grant Universities like ‘ours’ to the pastures, dairy barns, and kitchen tables of producers throughout the entire state, David’s practicality and focus is reminiscent of J.H. Shepperd,” said Kenton Carlson of Bismarck.
