Evidence Of Maternal Inheritance
See - Strickberger, M.W. 1968. Genetics. pgs 240-256.
Both maternal effects and maternal inheritance are identified by differences
in reciprocal crosses. Extra chromosomal inheritance is due to non-nuclear
genes. Maternal inheritance is due to extra-chromosomal inheritance
and persists for many generations. Maternal effects typically are present
only in the first generation of progeny. Maternal inheritance might
be due to genes in the chloroplast or mitochondria organelles.
- A difference in reciprocal crosses that are manifested for many
generations.
- The phenotype is determined by the maternal parent, regardless of
the genotype of the individual.
