Crossing-over

Two Strand Stage

Four Strand Stage

Double-fertilization

Four Strand Stage

A cross over between two homologous chromatids, at a single, point results in one pair of parental and one pair of non-parental combinations. Each cross over event results in 50% recombination.

* Crossing over at 4-strand stage results in gametes each of which contain a different combination of alleles at the chromosome of interest.
