Faculty Senate forums

You will soon be asked by University Senate to vote in a referendum to form a Faculty Senate. Before that vote we need your input to make revisions to the attached proposal. The proposal, to convert the existing University Senate into a Faculty Senate, was prepared by the Roles and Rewards Committee following the results of last years survey of the Faculty.

The 1995 Roles and Rewards Committee identified the following main justification and benefit as a reason for changing to a Faculty Senate at NDSU:

The Administration, Staff, and Students, each have recognized representative bodies. The Faculty is the only body which does not have its own organization. A Faculty Senate would provide an independent voice for faculty opinions.

In the larger picture, there has been a trend on U.S. campuses in the 1990's away from multi-constituent representative bodies, like our existing University Senate, towards faculty senates.

Please come to discuss the proposal at forums to be held in Family Life Center room 319, 11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m., and 12:30 - 1:20 p.m, on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 19th and 20th.

This is an important issue and deserves your attention. If you are unable to attend one of the four forums, would you please send your comments to Mary McDonald at:
