Studio Culture Policy
The Architecture Program of the Department of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at North Dakota State University recognizes that the design studio is an environment that emphasizes the design process as much as the design product. We shall utilize the design studio as a vehicle for the development of critical thinking and leadership skills, meaningful community engagement and service, collaboration, interdisciplinary and cross disciplinary learning, and innovation in teaching and learning methodologies. While acknowledging the significant responsibilities that students have in maintaining healthy and safe habits in design studio, managing time effectively, and tolerating diverse viewpoints, we shall strive to provide a caring and responsive environment that fosters these activities. We shall aim to provide our students with a solid understanding of the importance of people, clients, users, communities, and society in design decisions, by providing clear expectations and objectives for learning, healthy and constructive critiques, and clear methods of assessment.
