Welcome back everyone! We are excited about new semester and
events ahead of us. We kicked off this months meeting with Brian
Suckow. He talked to us about Merit Care's HR department and the health
care industry in general. The first thing he stressed was getting an
internship. It really helps you out in looking for a job later. The
experience is what people are looking for. He then went on to talk
about Merit Care's hiring process. First there is the application
process, next the interview, job offer and then the drug test. They do
a background check and once hired they go through an extensive
orientation process with a lot of training so they know exactly what's
going on when they step into their position. The last thing he talked
about was the different positions and departments within the the HR
department. There is the recruitment and hiring department, a
compensation dept., benefit dept. a lab contact. Hiring in ND is a
difficult task for the health care industry in general, especially when
you have places like the cities near by that pay a considerable amount
more. They need to sell them the position stating all the benefits of
being in the area, with the chief benefit being the cost of living
being much lower.
I want to remind everyone that we are having a tour of the
Merit Care HR department this Friday (the 14th) at 3pm. It is located
on South University, north of 94 across from the hospital. There is a
three level parking ramp that you can't miss. Enter the ramp and drive
up to the third level. From there you will see a door that has a big 3
on it.This is the entrance to the HR department. I hope to see everyone
there. Anyone that has any trouble finding the place can give Brian a
