3. Computer Use Policy Review Committee
Report
a) D. Wittrock reported on the work of the Computer Use Policy Review Committee. This group was appointed by Provost Schnell earlier this year and charged with reviewing our current computer use policies, developing procedures to enforce the campus’ computer use policies, and recommending steps to educate the campus regarding the computer use policies and sanctions. Committee members were given copies of the procedure document, the ITS Equipment Seizure Form, and the Forensic Responsibility Chart which guides the investigation of a suspected violation. Committee members raised a number of concerns about due process, the level of violation that will trigger an investigation, access and preservation of seized equipment and information, the definition of “criminal,” and who should be primarily responsible for the investigation. They also suggested that the committee find a way to present the message in a more positive manner. D. Wittrock indicating that he would report the CITPG member’s concerns to the computer use policy review committee. He also encouraged CITPG members to attend the faculty forum on April 28 where some discussion of this issue is scheduled to occur.
Meeting adjourned at 2:57 p.m.
