| General Education Committee Meeting Minutes Members present: Committee chair for the year was unanimously approved as Larry Peterson.
Larry Peterson distributed yearly report of activity of the General Ed committee for 2001-2002. Agenda items to carry over to current year include redefining the language for outcome #5; revising or eliminating outcome #7; updating language on how we evaluate certain outcomes (especially #2); discussion of previously distributed material from Bob Harrold on assessment, general education and criteria for accreditation. Larry will recommend to the University Senate the discontinuation of the four general education courses which received no department response for review. If approved this will not take affect until Fall 2003. The courses are CSI 126, CSI 162, Hort 210, Hort 211. Departments with courses eligible for review this year were notified May 2002 and will be due Dec 15, 2002. Subcommittees were assigned for the coming year and will meet separately as needed. Kristi Wold-McCormick updated summary of general ed course approvals. She also suggested combining the two separate appeal forms (general, and cultural diversity) into one and adding a request for advisor signature. 14 appeals were reviewed by the committee with 8 approved, 5 denied and 1 tabled. Two courses have been submitted for addition to the general education course list. Soc 115 and Bio 151, 151L will be reviewed by the committee and discussed at the next meeting.
