General Education Committee Minutes
December 5, 2002

Members Present: Clark Johnson, Harrold, McClean, Myhre, Prafcke, Peterson, Ryjph, Striemer, Swenson, Wold-McCormick

Chair Peterson called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m.

Minutes of the November 12, 2002 meeting were approved as read.

Prafcke agreed to act as recorder for the meeting.

Announcements:
Next semester meetings will be Tuesdays 3:30 – 4:30.

A student MOTION to deny (Peterson/McClean) carried
A student MOTION to approve (McClean/Streimer) carried
A student MOTION to deny (Swenson/Prafcke) carried

Reports from subcommittees:
Humanities and Fine Arts/Communications: No report

Social and Behavioral Sciences, Quantitative Reasoning and Wellness:
CDFS 475 MOTION to approve as a new GE course in Categories B&D (Peterson/Harrold) carried

Science and Technology:
BIOL151/151L MOTION to approve for outcomes 5& 6 in the Natural Science Category (Harrold/Swenson) carried
MOTION to make approval for BIOL151/151L retroactive to Fall 2002 (Harrold/Streimer) carried

BIOL 126 MOTION to approve continuation for outcomes 2& 5 (Harrold/Streimer) carried

BIOL220/220L MOTION to approve continuation for outcomes 5 & 6) (Harrold/Swenson) carried

MOTION to require each GE course syllabus and any appropriate course Web sites identify the course as having been approved for meeting General Education rerquirements and further state the learning outcomes for which each course has been approved (Harrold/Streimer) carried

Discussion of additional detailed expectations being made available to faculty submitting courses for initial approval. Tabled pending development of detailed expectations for all outcomes.
