Meeting Minutes

Friday, October 9 10, 2003
4 p.m. Plains Room/Memorial Union

Present: David Axt, Virginia Clark Johnson, Brian Dougan, Robert Harrold, Kate Haugen, Ranelle Ingalls, Marina Ioudina, Phil McClean, Char Myhre, Larry Peterson, Doug Rymph, Grant Striemer, Orven Swenson.

1. Larry Peterson convened the meeting at 4 p.m. New committee member David Axt was welcomed.

2. Orv Swenson agreed to serve as recorder for the meeting.

3. The September 19, 2003 meeting minutes were approved.

4. Larry Peterson distributed new course proposals for Art 110 and Art 111 to all members of the committee.

5. Larry Peterson distributed five year review materials for Geog. 161 to members of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Subcommittee.

6. Student petitions were reviewed with following results:

· Student 1 - approved the waiver of the Cultural Diversity requirement based on his studies in Spain at Don Quijote.

· Student 2 - approved the waiver of the Global Perspective requirement.

· Student 3 - approved use of STAT 331 for the Science and Technology requirement. The Office of the Registrar was provided authority for administrative approval of similar petitions at the Sept 5, 2003 meeting.

7. Larry Peterson distributed a spreadsheet of all gen. ed. courses organized by category and proposed inventory review sheets to be used to compile an up-to-date list of the outcomes claimed by courses and how the outcomes are being assessed. A lengthy discussion ensued that covered whether the inventory should be automated, who should prepare databases, and how the information would be used.

The meeting was abruptly adjourned at 5:00 p.m. due to a fire alarm.
