NDSU

The mission of NDSU's Emergency Management Program is to create a cadre of graduates with extensive theoretical and applied knowledge in emergency management and disaster research who can advance the field of emergency management and the body of knowledge of natural, technological and manmade hazards.

The Emergency Management Program is multidisciplinary and geared to academic disaster research curricula and applied aspects of emergency management. It is built on a core of social science courses that help students approach the study of disasters and emergency management from a sociological perspective. The program also draws from other disciplines that enhance the development of processes and techniques that help to mitigate hazards, deal with disasters and manage emergencies.

NDSU's Emergency Management Program's objectives are to:

  • Educate students and professionals in emergency management preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.
  • Serve as a focal point of training, education, service and research in disasters and emergency management.
  • Support professionalization of emergency management.
  • Engage in community service and outreach to educate citizens in hazard mitigation, disaster prevention and preparedness.
  • Develop a state-of-the-art emergency management applied research center.
