The School of Food Systems is a teaching, research and outreach unit in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources that focuses on all activities resulting in the post-harvest conversion of agricultural commodities into ingredients and consumer products. These activities include post-harvest transportation, storage, processing, and distribution.

The two academic and research departments that are housed in the School of Food Systems are the Department of Cereal and Food Science and the Great Plains Institute of Food Safety. 

The School collaborates with researchers in all departments in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources, North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, as well as other scientists located on the NDSU campus including scientists in the other NDSU Colleges, the United States Department of Agriculture and the Northern Crops Institute.
