FAMILY FINANCIAL PLANNING

The College of Human Development and Education at North Dakota State University (NDSU) is able to bring graduate level, web-based training to students through its collaboration with Great Plains - Interactive Distance Education Alliance member universities. Through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA), a consortium of ten universities, offers online graduate programs. Each university brings a unique strength to the multi-institution academic programs. However, your online courses are taught by the best faculty in the discipline from several universities.

In a multi-institution degree program:
  1. You apply and are admitted to one university;
  2. Enroll in all your courses at that university; and
  3. Graduate or receive a certificate from that university.

For additional information or questions please contact the NDSU Great Plains IDEA Coordinator

The Family Financial Planning Option

Benefits of the Master’s Degree and Graduate Certificate in family financial planning are:

  1. They create the career opportunities associated with a graduate education – more opportunities and often more pay
  2. They prepare you to take the Certified Financial Planner examination to become certified.
  3. Additional networking opportunities
  4. Cost savings from on-line courses
  5. Flexible schedules –convenient for working around family or work schedules
  6. Education for professional purposes PLUS personal applications!

The Family Financial Planning option is a collaborative, inter-institutional program offered by web-based distance education. In addition to the coursework, the option requires a choice of 6 credits of practicum, 3 credits of practicum and 3 credits of Master's paper, or a 6 credit Master's thesis. Students can complete the program in two to three years. Family Financial Planning is an emerging area with job opportunities in areas related to insurance, real estate, investments, retirement, tax and estate planning. Family Financial Planning (FFP) has been registered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. CFP® and Certified Financial Planner® are federally registered service marks of the Certified Financial Planner® Board of Standards, Inc. They are granted by the CFP® Board to those persons who have fulfilled a comprehensive educational requirement, passed the CFP® Certification Examination, satisfied a work experience requirement, and agreed to abide by the CFP® Board code of ethical conduct.
