GERONTOLOGY

The College of Human Development and Education at North Dakota State University (NDSU) is able to bring graduate level, web-based training to students through its collaboration with Great Plains - Interactive Distance Education Alliance member universities. Through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA), a consortium of ten universities, offers online graduate programs. Each university brings a unique strength to the multi-institution academic programs. However, your online courses are taught by the best faculty in the discipline from several universities.

In a multi-institution degree program:
  1. You apply and are admitted to one university;
  2. Enroll in all your courses at that university; and
  3. Graduate or receive a certificate from that university.

Gerontology

While engaging in the Gerontology program you will:

  • Gain knowledge on the physical, mental and social changes people undergo as they age
    Investigate societal changes due to an aging population
    Apply obtained knowledge to policies and programs
  • Complete either a 36-credit master’s degree or a 21-credit graduate certificate in gerontology from any of the participating universities

Program content is based on Standards and Guidelines for Gerontology Programs published by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE).

The Gerontology option is a collaborative, inter-institutional program offered by web-based distance education. The Gerontology option requires 30 to 33 credits of coursework and a thesis or masters paper for a total of 36 credits. The program can be completed in two to three years.

Gerontology Certificate Program an emerging area in which graduate training has not been readily available. The Gerontology Graduate Certificate is especially valuable to professionals who need more advanced coursework in this area but do not need a Masters Degree, or those who already have a Masters degree but would like more specific training in Gerontology. The Gerontology Certificate is a collaborative, inter-institutional program offered by web-based distance education.
