Co-op Paper Submission Guidelines
If you have completed a co-op work experience of 6 months or more (note: two 3-month summer internships satisfy this requirement), you can receive credit for IME 497, a technical elective offered in the IME department. The requirement for this 3-credit course is to complete a paper highlighting your co-op work experience using the following format:
- Cover Page
- Executive Summary
- Table of Contents
- Section One: Introduction
Include the company or companies you worked for, a brief history of the company, the duration of your work experience, your job title, and any other background information.
- Section Two: Co-op Job Responsibilities
Include a description of the your job responsibilities, your supervisor(s), and how you were evaluated. What typical job tasks did you accomplish?
- Section Three: Example Work Accomplishments
Include a detailed description of two or three primary work projects you completed. Include in these descriptions the industrial and/or manufacturing engineering skills and tools you employed. How did these projects relate to courses in the IME curriculum?
- Section Four: Summary
Please discuss the positives and negatives of your co-op experience. What would have improved the experience for you? Based on your co-op experience, what IME topics were most important? What was the most important thing you learned?
This paper should be written as a professional technical report: proof your work, include page numbers, use space-and-a-half line spacing, and one-inch page margins.
