Dr. Shi is an assistant professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) at North Dakota State University. He received his BS degree in Engineering in 1992, and a Ph.D. degree in Materials Engineering in 1998, both from University of Science and Technology Beijing, China. He earned his second Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University (West Lafayette) and joined the faculty of industrial and manufacturing engineering department at NDSU in 2004. He also had one year experience as a co-op research engineer at a major steel maker in China from 1996-1997, and his research led to the development and stable production in 1million tons/year of a new-generation steel sheet. His major responsibilities at NDSU include teaching courses in computer aided design, computer integrated manufacturing, composite materials; and conducting cutting-edge research in the basic and applied engineering science. He also serves as the coordinator of the IME Automation and Control lab, as well as the joint Mechanical Engineering (ME)/IME Composite Materials lab.
