Currently a Professor and department head at the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and Management @ NDSU.  He is an internationally recognized expert in Productivity Improvement.  Prior to joining NDSU, Dr. Farahmand served as Director and the graduate coordinator of the Industrial Engineering program at the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering department of Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Dr. Farahmand established the US-Mexico Maquiladora program and served as the director of that program for 10 years.  He was instrumental in establishing the DOE’s Energy Analysis and Diagnostic Center (EADC) and the later Industrial Assessment Center at Tamuk providing energy, waste, and productivity services to companies in South Texas. Dr. Farahmand has over 23 years of experience as an engineer, manager, and educator.  His primary teaching and research activities are in the areas of Manufacturing Systems, Lean Manufacturing and implementation, Ergonomics, Safety and Human Factors Engineering, Human Exposure and Physiology Simulation, Computer Network Management, Simulation and Modeling, Facilities and Production Layout – Planning & Management, Operations & Materials Management and Strategic Planning, ISO and QS 9000.  He is involved in joint research and consulting with DOE, ARMY, NAVY, NASA, and industry.  More current research areas include portable life support systems for NASA astronauts’ space ensemble and adverse environment protecting garment, thermal physiology, cooling systems, hypothermia, and respiratory heat and mass transfer for NAVY. He has also served as subject matter expert in Lean Manufacturing, Quality Control and ISO 9000:2000 implementation and certification to US Army command.  He earned a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from University of Oklahoma.  He completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering at University of Texas at Arlington.  He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas and past president of IIE Coastal Bend Chapter.
