At his 22ND year of teaching and professional services, Dr. Maleki is currently serving in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at North Dakota State University (NDSU) teaching courses in the areas of production and operations management and coordinating students-business/industry projects.  Prior to joining NDSU, Maleki served at South Dakota State University (SDSU) as Professor and Head in the Department of Engineering Technology and Management.  While at SDSU, Maleki was the key figure in developing a proposal to establish the South Dakota State Polytechnic Center of Excellence.  Upon approval of the Center by the South Dakota Board of Regents, Maleki also served as the Director of the Polytechnic Center where he undertook the additional responsibilities of creating the infrastructure for the Center, establishing applied research, enhancing cooperation with industry, streamlining a number of existing programs, and creating a number of unique campus-wide interdisciplinary programs. 

 

During his tenure at South Dakota State University, as a principal investigator, Maleki was instrumental in securing more than $800,000, including $600,000 from the National Science Foundation to establish a rapid prototyping center.  Maleki was also successful in authoring and receiving of a $640,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education in March 2002.

 

Prior to joining South Dakota State University, Maleki worked with Northwest Technical College as the Director of Allied Manufacturing Center providing technical advising and training in the areas of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering to a number of manufacturing companies in Northwest Minnesota.  Maleki served as the Lead Professor of Production/Operations Management at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and also worked at Minnesota State University - Moorhead as a professor and Coordinator of Industrial Management.

 

Maleki’s professional background also includes providing consulting and training services in the lean manufacturing concepts to a wide range of manufacturing companies.  He worked as the Technology Transfer Director for Minnesota Technology and authored the textbook, “Flexible Manufacturing Systems - the Technology and Management.”  Maleki is a registered professional Industrial Engineer and a Certified Manufacturing Manager.  He served on the Board of Directors for SJE Rhombus Inc. of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota for six years.  Maleki is an Academic Associate of Avraham Y. Goldratt Institute and has been recognized in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Midwest.  Dr. Maleki earned his bachelor and master degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management as well as his Engineering Ph.D. from North Dakota State University, in Fargo, North Dakota.

 

Maleki’s current and past professional affiliations include: American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), 1992-2000, served as Chapter Board Member; American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), 1995-1998; American Society for Quality Control (ASQC), 1988-1996, served as Chapter Vice President for Education,; American Welding Society (AWS), 1997-1998; Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), 1979-1994 and 2002-present; National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT), 1987-1997; and Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), 1984-present, served as Chapter President and Technical Program Chair; Minn-Dak Manufacturers Association, 2002-present, serving as the Vice President of Programs.
