IME Undergraduate Student Handbook
Revised February 2002
- Overall Curriculum Requirement
A student must meet the current Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M) or Manufacturing Engineering (MfgE) curriculum requirements in place at the time that he/she joins the program. However, for reasons including a need to observe new accreditation requirements and a credit change in a course offering, a certain program change may be applied to students accepted under a curriculum of a previous version.
- General Education Requirements
A student must also meet the University General Education requirements unless he/she provides proof of having fulfilled the general education program consisting of a minimum of 36 credits from an accredited institution.
The General Education requirements are outlined in the University Registration Schedule. A student who fulfills the IE&M or MfgE curriculum requirements would automatically meet Categories 1-3 and 9-12 of the Gen. Ed. requirements. For Categories 4-8, the following check lists can be used (the term Category and CODE correspond to the Gen. Ed. requirements printed in the University Registration Schedule):
| Categories 4,5,7,8 |
| # cr* | D or G?** | Course |
| | | i. 1 Humanity and Fine Art (CODE: A) course approved by the Gen. Ed. Committee |

| | | iii. 1 Social & Behavioral Science (CODE: B) course approved by the Gen. Ed. Committee |
| | | iv. ENGR 312 (CODE: B, also counted as Global Perspective) or another Gen. Ed. course of Code B |
*The total of i+ii for CODE A MUST BE AT LEAST 6 CREDITS; the total of iii+iv for CODE B MUST BE AT LEAST 6 CREDITS.
** AMONG the above 4 courses, 3 credits must also be approved for Cultural Diversity (CODE: D) and 3 credits for Global Perspectives (CODE: G). |

Or other engineering or business courses advised by the adviser. * As a technical elective if this course is not counted as a required course. |
- The following courses are approved as technical electives for the MfgE program:
| IME 320 | IME 420 | IME 422 | IME 425 | IME 427 |
| IME 450 | IME 451 | IME 452 | IME 455 | IME 456 |

| ENGR 320 | STAT 462 | | | |
| Or other engineering or business courses advised by the adviser. |
MfgE students are required to group electives into a cohesive option. See your advisor on department change, for up-to-date choices of elective options.
Note: Enrollment of undergraduates in 600-700 level courses requires departmental approval.
- IME/UNIV 199
All freshman or transfer students with fewer than 24 transfer credits are required to take IME/UNIV 199.
- IME 111
All freshmen are required to take IME 111. A transfer student’s IME 111 requirement may be waived depending on the student’s previous coursework.
- Co-op Education
All students are encouraged to have a cooperative education. A co-op education significantly enhances the IME educational experience and career preparation. A student who completes a total of 6 months of co-op can choose to write a technical report and receive a letter grade for 3 credits of IME494 or IME 496, which can be counted toward a technical elective with the approval of the advisor. The guideline for writing a co-op technical report can be obtained from the advisor.
