Getting
Started:
Get
an NDSU Electronic ID and e-mail account
Your
Electronic ID grants you to access to NDSU webmail, the computer clusters,
Internet access from the residence halls, and classroom tools and resources
(like Blackboard).
You can
activate your Electronic ID the week before school starts. To activate
your Electronic ID, go to http://enroll.nodak.edu and follow the instructions.
Use
Webmail, NDSU's online e-mail program, to access your e-mail.

Get
information about public computer labs, software, and printing
NDSU
has more than twenty public computer labs (mostly Windows) with current
versions of popular software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop
and InDesign, and Macromedia Dreamweaver.
A responsible printing
initiative has been launched on campus in order
to reduce the amount of wasted paper. For
more information, see the list of frequently
asked questions on the NDSU Student Government Web site.
For
more information about all of these topics, visit the ITS
Web site.

Get
wireless access
An official NDSU
wireless network is now available in several locations on campus. This
allows NDSU students, staff, and faculty with mobile computing devices
to use the campus network and the Internet without an Ethernet cable.
If mobile access is important
to you, equip your laptop with a wireless network card, and see the Web
site (above) for further requirements.
Wireless
access is not available in the Residence Halls.

Get
a computer
You are not required
to bring a computer to campus. Some students choose to use the public
computer clusters.
However, if you are planning
to purchase a new computer, the Varsity
Mart (the NDSU bookstore) is
a good place to start. The Varsity Mart Computer Store stocks a selection
of Apple, DakTech, and Sony laptops. To purchase a Dell computer, with
an NDSU discount, go to www.dell.com/ndsu.
The Varsity Mart Computer
Store received special higher education pricing on Microsoft, Adobe,
Macromedia, and Apple software. A University ID is required.

Protect
yourself from viruses and Internet worms: Install FREE
anti-virus software which is available for NDSU students, faculty

Keep
yourself protected: Make sure your anti-virus

You can protect yourself even more
by becoming aware of the guidelines
