The Center for Child Development

HELPING CHILDREN GROW: The Center for Child Development is operated as an education and research facility for the Department of Child Development and Family Science in the NDSU College of Human Development and Education, and as a service to NDSU faculty and staff.

With this in mind, children are admitted to the Center for Child Development based on age and developmental status. Enrollment is on a first-come first-serve basis with priority given as follows:

1. Children of center staff;
2. Siblings of children currently enrolled in the center;
3. Children of NDSU faculty and staff.

Children aged 6 weeks through 2 years are served in our infant-toddler rooms, and children aged 3 years through 5 years are served in our preschool. Children eligible for kindergarten on August 31 are eligible for childcare and education services through August 15.

For more information, please contact the director at (701)231-8281.

HOURS OF OPERATION: The center is a full-day child care and education program and follows the 12 month administrative/staff calendar.

PHILOSOPHY: The guiding principle of the center is that children learn in an environment that supports their success while being respectful of each child's learning style. The environment fosters the development of trust so children feel safe and encouraged to explore, discover and play. Teachers listen to children, encourage independence, self-control develop teaching strategies to promote positive outcomes for all children. Parent involvement is always welcome in the center to promote a strong home-center partnership.

STAFF: Center's strength lies in well-educated staff in each classroom. All staff members have bachelor's or master's degrees and years of experience working with children. All staff members are infant-child CPR and First Aid Certified.

ENROLLMENT AND FEES: Children 6 weeks through 5 years of age can be enrolled in the center based on age and developmental status. Preference is given to NDSU faculty and staff. Fees are based on full-time care and age of the child.

CURRICULUM: The curriculum is designed by the staff and students to enhance development and individual learning styles of young children. Child-initiated as well as teacher-initiated activities are planned throughout the day. There is a balance between indoor-outdoor and active-quiet times. Breakfast, lunch and snack are served daily.
