| DESCRIPTION: |
The engine boss must be able to provide leadership and supervision for engine crew, serve as engine driver/operator, and skilled in the use of a variety of specialized hand tools, water-handling apparatus, light power tools, equipment and firefighting techniques. Will be required to perform daily maintenance on assigned engine; work under adverse conditions while on fire duty; meet physical requirements of duties; train crew; teach fire-related courses. Must be able to be dispatched for up to two weeks. |
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: |
- High school diploma or equivalent
- NWCG qualifications as an Engine Boss
- Valid driver's license
- Vehicle and equipment maintenance experience

PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Previous fire experience as an engine boss
- Knowledge of land navigation
- Sawyer qualifications

The
North Dakota Forest Service is organized under the North Dakota Board
of Higher Education and has been a part of the higher education system
since 1907. The agency is administered by the State Forester who reports
to the President of North Dakota State University at Fargo.
The North Dakota Forest Service Mission is to "care for, protect,
and improve forest and natural resources to enhance the quality of
life for present and future generations." The agency achieves
this mission by administering forestry programs statewide. Technical
assistance relating to the management of private forest lands, state
forest lands, urban and community forests, tree planting, and wildfire
protection is provided by the agency. The North Dakota Forest Service
operates a nursery that produces 1.3 million seedlings annually, and
also owns and manages approximately 13,278 acres of state forest lands.
Nestled on the east side of the Missouri River, Bismarck is the capital
of North Dakota. With a population of just over 50,000 people, it
has all the amenities of a large city as it maintains a small town
atmosphere. People are friendly and crime is almost non-existent.
The community is served by an airport, two medical centers, a private
four-year university, a public two-year technical college, the United
Tribes Training College and numerous other advanced educational opportunities
through the North Dakota University System. It provides numerous outdoor
recreational opportunities such as five local golf courses, over thirty
local parks and a zoo. Additionally there are nationally prized fishing
and hunting opportunities, the Dakota Prairie Grasslands and the Theodore
Roosevelt National Park offering spectacular outdoor experiences nearby.
