Financial Assistance ProgramsNorth Dakota Forest Service Landowner Assistance State Priority Plan (PDF 729KB) Forest Resource Management Grant Application is available here in Adobe (PDF) format The Forest Resource Management team offers three financial assistance programs. These programs provide cost-share for landowners implementing forest improvement activities on their properties. Some of the activities that have been cost-shared in the past include windbreak planting and renovation, wildlife habitat plantings and woodland improvement activities. The programs are: Forest Land Enhancement ProgramThe Forest Land Enhancement Program (FLEP) is a new incentives program authorized by the 2002 Farm Bill to ensure that non-industrial private forests and related natural resources continue to provide private and public benefits, safeguard the quality and health of our water, air, woodland resources and wildlife. Through FLEP, the State Forester and other resource managers will provide resource management education and technical and financial assistance to promote sustainable forest management. Wildfire Grant Protection ProgramThe Wildfire Grant Protection Program is a compilation of several different funds from the National Fire Plan which was instituted in response to the severe fire season of the year 2000. This funding is used to reduce rural homeowner’s risk of loss and to make rural properties safer from wildfire. Under this program a representative of the North Dakota Forest Service provides a Firewise Hazard Assessment of the property at no cost to the homeowner. Some practices that can be cost-shared include the installation of vegetative fuel breaks, removal of individual trees deemed to be a fire hazard to the home, installation of non-flammable mulch within 3 feet of the foundation of the home, and pruning. The cost share for this grant program is at a 50% level.
