Sustainable Forestry

Our forest resources, face many challenges today and will face increasing pressures in the future. Development for non-forest uses; forest health issues including endemic and introduced forest pests; changing demographic paradigms; gradual altering of personal land ethic; and a lack of economic incentives for public and private landowners to retain and manage land all impact the future of forest lands. Sustainable forestry involves the monitoring, retention, conservation, utilization and health of forest land in the face of increasing societal demands. It means fulfilling today's needs while planning for the needs of tomorrow. Success hinges on involving all those with interest in conserving our woodland resources.
