Alumni, Development Center

Alumni, Development Center Building Details

Description:

The idea for an alumni center had been in the planning stages since 1969, but was set aside in order to meet more pressing needs for the campus. The Alumni Association was originally housed in Ceres Hall before it moved to the former School of Religion building located across University Drive from Ceres. The School of Religion Building had creaky floors and "was only warm in summer, then cooled down for winter." Making matters worse was the fact that during winter staff meetings everyone "grabbed their coats, umbrellas, snowshoes or whatever protection they needed that day" (Bison Briefs November 1997). In 1993, plans for a $3.4 million alumni center became a reality with the start of the $20,000,000 Campaign for NDSU. On October 10, 1997, ground was broken for the new alumni center. The new center would house the Alumni Association, the Development Foundation, meeting rooms and conference rooms (It's Happening at State, December 8, 1993, p. 1-2; Spectrum, October 14, 1997, p. 1). The Alumni Center was dedicated in the Spring of 1999.
