E-MENTORING

Choose a mentor from your area of career interest. Student members review information on prospective mentors online and choose the ones that best fit their needs. STUDENT MEMBERSHIP CARD, PIN AND CERTIFICATE

Upon becoming a student member of ASME a membership card will be mailed to you. Students in the United States will receive their membership certificate and pin from their university's ASME Student Section advisor. If there is no advisor at your university these items will be mailed to you directly. International students will receive their membership pin by mail. We hope to soon include a membership certificate. A new membership card will be mailed to you each year with your renewal statement. For replacement cards e-mail infocentral@asme.org

TECHNICAL DIVISION MEMBERSHIP*

ASME has 37 Technical Divisions serving specific disciplines in mechanical engineering. Participation in a Technical Division allows you to gain valuable insight into a particular area and to network with experienced individuals who share your interests.

ASME offers more than 200 short courses with member discounts up to $100. And as one of the largest technical publishers in the world, ASME offers members many publications at a savings of 20% or more.

FREE ATTENDANCE AT TECHNICAL DIVISION CONFERENCES AND OTHER SOCIETY MEETINGS

Students enjoy the benefit of free attendance at Technical Division Conferences and other Society meetings, including ASME’s International Mechanical Engineering & Exposition (IMECE, the winter annual meeting of ASME).

DEVELOPMENT OF LEADERSHIP SKILLS/NETWORKING

ASME has 125,000 members, which include some 24,000 students, with nearly 400 student sections located around the globe. With a strong membership base and many sponsored activities, ASME offers student members the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and the ability to network with mechanical engineering professionals. The ASME website is the Society’s state-of-the-art- communications medium on the World Wide Web. It gives all users access to technical discussion groups, information on ASME Codes & Standards and publications, databases of conference paper abstracts, conference proceedings, and much more.

LIFETIME E-MAIL ADDRESS

ASME members can register for a lifetime e-mail address that will forward to whatever e-mail address you prefer. This means you can use your ASME address throughout your ASME membership regardless of changes in your Internet Service Provider or e-mail address. After your college days end, friends can still get in touch with you!

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH SCHOLARSHIP, FELLOWSHIP AND STUDENT LOAN PROGRAMS

These programs help student members subsidize their education. The scholarship awards range from $1000 to $6,000, while the graduate teaching fellowships encourage student members to pursue the doctorate in mechanical engineering and encourages engineering education as a profession. Furthermore, the ASME Student Loan fund has helped over 1,000 ASME student members with low interest student loans. In fact, the loan rates are a nominal 1% below the Federally Guaranteed Student Loan (GSL) rate.

Resources like the ASME Online Jobs Database allows immediate access to information on job opportunities throughout the world. Search the database by title, locations, responsibilities and requirements. There is also a list of just internships and entry level positions. ASME also offers a Global Resource Page that contains links to resume writing pages and other job search areas.
