David A. Rider North Dakota State University      I am a Professor in the Department of Entomology at North Dakota State University.  My primary research is on the systematics of the Pentatomoidea, especially the Pentatomidae.  I name and describe new species and genera, and revise various genera and/or tribes.  Much of my work focuses on nomenclatural issues, including the development of world catalogs of all pentatomoid families.  My laboratory is in the process of setting up a molecular genetics laboratory.  This will allow us to use molecular data to help infer phylogenetic relationships, and thus prepare a new, more natural classification.      I also supervise a large ecological project, in which we are studying the effects of burning, grazing, and haying on selected northern tallgrass prairie arthropods.  We hope to make recommendations to regional nature stewards to help them better manage our native prairies.      I earned my B.S. at Purdue University, my M.S. at Auburn University, and my Ph.D. at Louisiana State University.
