Our first female student's name was Jessamine Slaughter.  Our university, being

Subsequent to the naming of Ceres Hall, Jessamine's name changed when she got married to Mrs. Jessamine Burgum, which made the naming of a new women's dorm after her much more
palatable.  Thus the name of another women's dorm, 'Burgum Hall.'
