Goal:

Promote
the development of campus policies and procedures
that support the provision of equitable and meaningful
professional development opportunities and reward
systems for all staff.

Work with University Senate in establishing a
task force that would assess the professional
development needs of staff and make recommendations
for improving the structure and function by which
it is provided.

b.
Work with the University Senate and Office of
Human Resources toward the development of university
policies and procedures which are consistent with
Board of Higher Education directives and incentives
for staff training and development.

2.
Goal:
|
Collaborate
with other North Dakota University System (NDUS)
institutions to establish a state-wide Staff Senate.
|
|
Objective(s):
|
a.
Maintain contact with the NDSU President's office
to gain support for establishing a state-wide
Staff Senate.
|
|
|
b.
Develop a staff member contact at each of the
NDUS institutions.
|
|
|
c.
Visit campuses upon invitation to explain the
function and benefit of a staff-wide Staff Senate.
|
|
|
d.
Initiate statewide Interactive Video Network (IVN)
informational meetings in which staff from all
institutions could participate. The existing Staff
Senates would be invited to hold their meetings
on the IVN
|
|
|
e.
Convene Presidents of existing Staff Senates in
North Dakota to discuss how to promote this goal.
|
|
|

3.
Goal:
|
Explore the establishment of a committee with
staff representation from NDUS institutions, possibly
in the form of a Council of Staff, which could
be set up similar to the existing Council of Faculty.

Objective(s):
|
a.
(completed 7-2003) Seek the NDSU President's help
in gaining approval for this initiative by the
Chancellor and the other presidents.

4.
Goal:
|
Promote
the acceptance, visibility, and input of Staff
Senate at NDSU.
|

Objective(s):
|
a.
Inform the NDSU community of Staff Senate activities
through University media and the Staff Senate
web-site.
|
|
b.
Partner with University Senate and other organized
university bodies, as appropriate. |
|
|
c.
Encourage Senators to gather input from colleagues.
|
|
|
d.
Present information about Staff Senate at each
New Employee Orientation program.
|
|
e.
Promote the accomplishments of Staff Senate. |

5.
Goal:
|
Maintain
Staff Senate as a professional organization.
|
|
Objective(s):

a.
Maintain an orientation/mentoring program for
Senators that assists them in understanding the
mission and goals of committees, and meeting responsibilities
and commitments.

b.
Explore the coordination of an open assembly of
the University, Student and Staff Senates to discuss
common goals, missions, and committee structures.
|
|
|
c.
Hold Staff Senator elections to generate interest
and involvement in Staff Senate.
|
|
|

6.
Goal:

Increase
positive public relations with the citizens of
North Dakota.
|

Objective(s):

a.
Work with the Council of State Employees (COSE)
in support of its mission.
|
|
|
b.
The Public Relations Committee will develop goal(s)
to promote positive messages about the university
off-campus.

7.
Goal:
|
Promote
staff awareness of and involvement in the legislative
process.
|

Objective(s):
|
a.
Serve as a liaison with the President's Office
regarding legislative issues of concern to staff.
|
|
|
b.
Work cooperatively with the University and Student
Senates in organizing communication regarding
legislative matters.
|
|
|
c.
Conduct a written survey of all NDSU staff members,
analyze the data, write an executive summary,
and distribute the information to campus officials,
legislators, and the Governor as appropriate.

8.
Goal:
|
Promote
positive dialog among staff, faculty, administrators,
and students.
|

a.
Promote active staff participation on campus committees
and task forces.

b.
Encourage collegial interactions among people
in the campus community.
