NDSU staff and alumni exhibit art at Memorial Union Art Gallery

Fargo, N.D., Sept. 16

"Dwelling," an exhibit to showcase the art of North Dakota State University staff and alumni, opens Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Memorial Union Art Gallery. A reception for the exhibit is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Initiated by Kent Kapplinger, an associate professor of visual arts at NDSU, the exhibit is a way to get alumni connected with the university. This is the first year for staff and alumni to show their art in an exhibit together. Pieces were accepted from alumni across the nation.

"Dwelling" was chosen to encourage artists to develop concepts of what dwelling meant to them. "Art varies from literal interpretations to conceptual ideas," Kapplinger said.

The show is multi-disciplined and open to graduates from the visual arts, architecture, landscape architecture and English departments. A wide variety of mediums will be presented including paintings, ceramics, digital media, mixed media and more.

Linda Olson, a visual artist's instructor at Minot State University, juried the exhibit. Thirty-three pieces were accepted for the exhibit and eight were awarded best of show.

The exhibit will be on display until Oct. 31. For more information, contact Esther Hockett at (701) 231-9239.
