National expert to speak on domestic and sexual violence

Nationally renowned speaker Tony Porter, co-founder of A Call to Men, is scheduled to present “It’s Everyone’s Business to Prevent Domestic and Sexual Violence” Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. in NDSU’s Festival Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Porter and A Call to Men have provided education, tools and strategies to more than 3,000 organizations, including the National Football League, National Basketball Association, United Nations, the United States Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, Harvard University, Columbia University and hundreds of youth sports organizations, high schools and colleges.

“The Centers for Disease Control says that men’s violence against women is at epidemic proportions,” Porter said.

A Call to Men’s consultation has been enlisted by CNN, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and the “Dr. Phil” show. Porter’s TED talk has had more than 1.5 million views. It is available at www.ted.com/talks/tony_porter_a_call_to_men.

The Fargo-Moorhead Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, NDSU Athletic Department and the NDSU Office of Student Life – Sexual Assault Prevention and Advocacy are sponsoring the presentation.
