A special flag raising is planned for the NDSU campus on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 8:15 a.m. near the south entrance to the Memorial Union. The annual event is in honor of Veterans Day.

According to organizer Kaarin Remmich, military and veterans service representative, the color guard will include cadets from the NDSU Army and Air Force ROTC units.

Following the flag raising, a roll call will be read including the names of NDSU’s fallen veterans from Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“We will once again gather in solidarity to honor our nation’s veterans,” Remmich said. “The flag raising and absentee roll call is a poignant reminder of the freedoms we enjoy today because of the sacrifices our veterans made.”

In addition, Mark Lindquist of Fargo is scheduled to give a presentation at 8:45 a.m. in the Memorial Union Prairie Rose room. Lindquist, whose life is dedicated to service and volunteerism, is a veteran of the Afghanistan war. He also served in President Clinton’s AmeriCorps. He has built homes for Habitat for Humanity and playgrounds for inner-city youth in nearly every major city in the country. Lindquist will share his story of global service, inspiring and motivating others to do their part for positive change in the world.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
