Statistics students visit Wells Fargo Bank

SHARE

Statistics students and Tatjana Miljkovic, assistant professor of practice, visited Wells Fargo Bank Oct. 23, as part of a class-learning project. Sonya Anderson, registered client associate, and Chad Stark, first vice president of investments, hosted the visit.

Students learned about an investment tool, called The Envision, that uses statistical methods and a simulation model to test ideal, acceptable and recommended investment plans. The simulation model uses assumptions about mortality, inflation, financial market returns and relationships among other variables to draw 1,000 different potential outcomes over a lifetime of investing with varying historical risk, return and correlation among the assets. The purpose is to advise clients on how to make smart financial decisions toward their retirement.

The Actuarial Statistical Risk Analysis Course was offered for the first time in fall 2014 and prepares students to pass the SOA/CAS Actuarial Exam II. The field trip helps students connect material studied in the class with real-life applications.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
