The NDSU Memorial Union Gallery will soon host an annual interactive T-shirt exhibition that explores the personal experiences of individuals, particularly women, affected by sexual assault and violence.
The Clothesline Project is scheduled for March 31 through April 10. The project serves as a vehicle for individuals who have been affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. They then hang the shirt on a clothesline to be viewed by others as a testimony to the problem of violence against women. There are approximately 500 Clothesline Projects around the world. All of the shirts on display at the gallery are created by NDSU students, faculty and staff, and members of the Fargo-Moorhead community.
The NDSU project is a collaboration between the Memorial Union Gallery, NDSU Sexual Assault Prevention and Advocacy, NDSU Violence Prevention Educators, the NDSU “Share. Survive. Thrive.” student support group and the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of Fargo-Moorhead.
The Memorial Union Gallery is located on the second floor of the NDSU Memorial Union, at 1401 Administrative Ave. Visitor parking is available in the South Union Lot. Free parking is available on weekends and after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Regular gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The gallery will be open until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 10, for an NDSU Women’s Activist Organization event.
