NDSU student Remington Krueger, a senior majoring in history and anthropology, is scheduled to present his paper, "A Norwegian Immigrant and Homesteader in the Dakota War: Private Ole N. Orland," at the Western Social Science Association conference in Portland, Oregon, April 8-11.

Krueger wrote the original piece of history by examining Orland's diary for his history senior seminar class with Thomas Isern, University Distinguished Professor of history. Also, Krueger was awarded honorable mention in the Western Social Science Association student paper competition.

Krueger has been accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of California-Los Angeles and University of California-San Diego to work toward a Master of Arts in Latin American studies starting this fall. At UCLA, he was awarded a $31,000 departmental fellowship.
