The Minnesota Corn Growers Association announced NDSU sophomore Mercedes Lee is one of four “Agvocates” for 2010-11. Lee, from Perley, Minn., will receive a $3,000 scholarship.

Lee is working toward a double major in crop and weed science and management communication. She grew up raising Hampshire sheep and was active in 4-H Club, Future Farmers of America, Minnesota Lamb and Wool Producers and the American sheep industry.

According to the association, the “Agvocate” program is designed to create a learning environment to encourage the development of young leaders in agriculture. The students will be given opportunities to be involved with corn and agriculture, develop leadership, communication and advocacy skills through hands-on experiences and network with agricultural professionals.
