North Dakota State University, Concordia College and Minnesota State University have formed a partnership to raise funds for the Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle Campaign in Fargo. Mascots from each university, athletes coaches and staff will compete in the second annual Mascot Challenge on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 12:30 to 8 p.m. at the main entrance of West Acres Shopping Center. Mascots will be present until 3 p.m.

The Student Athletic Advisory Councils from each institution have worked with the Salvation Army to make the challenge a success. "I'm really looking forward to the Mascot Challenge. The student athletes are putting a lot of work into lining up volunteers from the various sports teams and encouraging the alumni to come to the kettles and 'vote' for their favorite mascot by making a donation. I believe we are going to see this event move to a whole new level this year. To have the athletic departments come together like this is to raise funds for The Salvation Army to help us serve those who come to us in need is amazing," said Captain Bill Mealy of The Salvation Army.

Nearly $1,000 was raised during the 2008 Mascot Challenge that ran for three hours at the West Acres Mall last year. MSUM took home the prized Kettle Trophy, by raising $403.
