H. David Wilson, M.D.

H. David Wilson, M.D., is a pediatrician with fellowship training in infectious diseases. Since 1995, he has been Dean of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences and Vice President for Health Affairs since 2001. Dr. Wilson is a graduate of Wabash College and St. Louis University School of Medicine. He was a resident in pediatrics at the University of Kentucky, a NIH fellow at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School - Dallas and did a sabbatical study in virology at the University of London Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Sick Children in London, England. He served in the U.S. Navy as Lt. Commander. Dr. Wilson was a faculty member at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine for 22 years, completing his tenure as Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. During his tenure at Kentucky, Dr. Wilson also served as Vice Chair of Pediatrics and Director of Admissions.

During 1988-89, Dr. Wilson was selected as an American Council on Education fellow mentored by President David Roselle at the University of Kentucky. He has received several teaching awards including the University of Kentucky Alumni Association's Great Teacher Award. He is also the author many peer reviewed publications in pediatric infectious disease.

Currently, Dr. Wilson is a member of the AAMC Council of Deans Administrative Board, AAMC Medical Student Performance Evaluation Advisory Committee, and the AMA's Council on Medical Education. He is also the chair of AAMC's Community-Based Deans group.

His duties at North Dakota involve oversight for four campuses, the education of medical and health science students and residents in training. He reports to the president of the university and to the North Dakota legislature. During his tenure at North Dakota, he has recruited or appointed almost all of the associate and assistant deans and department chairs. Research funding has markedly increased and the financial status of the school is at an all time high. He is especially proud of the innovative and dynamic curriculum for medical students.

Dr. Wilson and his wife, Jeanette, have three daughters and two grandchildren. They enjoy family, travel, reading, music and gardening.
