NRM Students gather together as the NRM Club to develop career contacts, gain leadership and teamwork experience, and to make new friends. The NRM Club hopes to enrich the college experience for students who are interested in management of natural resources by providing opportunities for social interaction, service, personal and professional development and career contacts.
The Club is open to all undergraduate and graduate NRM students. The membership fee is $20.00 annually, and can be paid each semester. The Club meets every other week (usually at the Memorial Union).
Each year the Club sponsors a scholarship for a qualifying NRM student. Members hold several fundraising efforts during the year to finance this scholarship. Usually a silent auction is held in December of each year with the proceeds going towards this scholarship.
Members participate in a number of social activities, as well as volunteer efforts during the school year. Previous volunteer activities have included Red River cleanup, wood duck box maintenance, red river zoo clean up, and most recently replacing guideposts at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The club has been instrumental in the Native Prairie Reconstruction project along 18th Avenue in Fargo. This project is located near the Research Park.
The Club is also assisting with the North Country Scenic Trail running through a portion of the Albert Ekre Grassland Preserve. Members have meet at the Preserve and weekends and have been removing broken trees and clearing the trail which will eventually lead to Minnesota.
Social activities have included snow shoeing, bowling, dog sledding in Minnesota, camping at Itasca State Park, camping at Theodore Roosevelt National Park, visits to the International Wolf Center, Gooseberry Falls State Park, Two Harbors, MN., the Fergus Falls Wetland Management District, Two Inlets Sawmill, and the Hubbard County Recycling center.
