The Metropolitan Area Transit System, better known as “MATBUS”, is the public transit system serving the cities of Fargo and Moorhead with limited service to West Fargo and Dilworth. This system is operated by the cities of Fargo and Moorhead who work together to ensure comprehensive service between the cities. MATBUS welcomes your comments and suggestions, and we welcome you as a rider.
Bison Roam Free with Metro Area Transit (MATBUS)
NDSU students can ride any MATBUS bus FREE of charge! Simply show a current NDSU student ID card when boarding. Since all routes connect at transfer points, you can get anywhere served by MATBUS by transferring to another bus. Just ask your driver for assistance when boarding. (NDSU Transit Guide)
All It Takes Is Your Bison ID!
MATBUS is implementing new farebox technology for Spring Semester 2010 to more accurately count the number of its passengers. You should use your Bison ID card when riding any MATBUS bus, including on-campus routes and the routes serving the downtown campuses.
Have your Bison ID ready when you board the bus and swipe it in the top of the bus farebox. The bus drivers will be happy to assist you if you have any questions.
No monetary value is removed from your Bison ID when using it in the new fareboxes – all rides on MATBUS buses are free for NDSU students, faculty and staff.
Of course, our visitors and those without Bison ID cards are still welcome to ride on Routes 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 free of charge; simply tell the bus driver you are visiting campus.
